Do you ever think about worry or anxiety as a sin? I used to think that worry and anxiety aren’t really anything that can be helped but to experience them when stressful or bad things happen. Let’s look at a few examples:
You about to have the job interview of a lifetime and that bright red ketchup LEAPS off your hotdog and leaves a slug trail down the front of your white button-down shirt.
Response? Anxiety, perhaps?
Your driving home with your spare tire on your car’s tire and another tire blows-out on the interstate.
What do you feel? Maybe anxiety here too?
Your car is almost out of gas and there is no gas station in view. You should have stopped but you just wanted to make it a little further.
How are you feeling now, a growing stress?
You go to pick up your little girl at school and she is no where to be found.
What are your thoughts now? Full fledged panic!!?
I’ve had the opportunity to know God as provider in a way that a lot of people don’t. I want to be honest with you: sometimes this is hard and can be stressful. BUT, I wouldn’t trade the opportunity to know God this way. God has never let me down. God’s peace surpasses understanding and is not dependent upon the presence or absence of our circumstances. God’s peace is bigger and as we learn to trust God more we can embrace His peace. No matter the situation.
God spoke a scripture to me and I thought, “Hmmm, maybe this word is for you as well?”
Matthew 6: 33,34 But see first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
God commands us not to worry, but instead to seek first God’s kingdom. Its imperative that I have another habit or focus to switch other ones out. This is trusting God even when the world tells you no way. God’s got me and He’s got you too. Really!
I made it through the 12 hours of prayer. I’m off to take a nap. Thanks for your thought and prayers, encouragement and support. I appreciate you!
