Sharing an Article on Being Single Overseas

In News by Carla

I enjoy reading the blog called, A Life Overseas: The Missions Conversation. If you or someone you love is engaged with missions, this site has a lot of resources. The most recent article delivered straight into my email box titled, “Single Overseas? 8 Lessons from Someone Who did it All Wrong”.  I am not single now, but I have a number years serving as a single woman.  I am also privileged to do life with and counsel some single people. What I am saying is, this article piqued my interest!

This author, Elizabeth, worked overseas in Malawi as a single person. Her message is almost like a letter she would have written to her younger and less experienced self. In fact, I know some country-music-songs with similar themes– if only I had known then, what I know now! Oh what I would have done differently!  Returning to the article of topic, her first point community is crucial. I agree with this wholeheartedly, and believe this is a message for everyone—people who are single, dating, engaged, married, and etc.! God did not intend for us to do life on little islands by ourselves. I appreciate this author sharing her experiences with others via this post. I think it takes a lot of courage to admit when you have made poor decisions, and to vulnerably share those with others.  In closing, check out the blog and/or her article.
